I’m past the point where I’m trying to line up with any political “team.” I don’t think a total shutdown is a good idea for dealing with COVID-19, but I do think the virus is dangerous, and I also don’t have a problem wearing a mask.
Mostly, the politicization of EVERYTHING, including science, is going to be the downfall of this country.
Now that all that’s off my chest, here’s an interesting lecture from Tom Woods. Lots of very good, very interesting points are made.

At Walmart, you can buy alcohol, guns, and regular old tobacco. But as of today, you won’t find the mega-retailer stocking e-cigarettes on its shelves.
“Given the growing federal, state, and local regulatory complexity and uncertainty regarding e-cigarettes, we plan to discontinue the sale of electronic nicotine delivery products at all Walmart and Sam’s Club U.S. locations. We will complete our exit after selling through current inventory,” Walmart said in an emailed statement.
Seems the problem most are having here is that Walmart is only banning stuff that’s in the news, and not dangerous things, in general. It’s a valid concern, but Walmart taking vapes, guns, tobacco products, etc., off the shelves isn’t going to save the world, by any stretch. If anything, it makes it a good time to open a vape shop, gun store, liquor store, etc. The market cannot be dictated by one retailer.

If I’m being completely honest, my suspicion over the last several months is that the answer to the question in the title would be, “yes.” However, this piece from CBS This Morning may have changed my opinion a little. Could it be that a lack of faith in experts is having this negative of an effect?

I’ve been meaning to fire this blog back up for a while now, but life keeps getting in the way. So, no promises on a start date, but I can say you’ll see a little more Colorado news than in the past. After watching the crap fest that is national-level politics, I believe more than ever that real change happens on the local level.

I get that this kid’s parents are upset. Heck, if I lost a child to excessive caffeine consumption, I’d probably go after energy drinks, sodas, coffee, caffeine pills, etc. However, if I learned anything being a teenager who’s friends drank and smoked, it’s that bans don’t work. It’s just a (potential) “look, we’re helping!” type of legislation, that’ll do nothing but put another law on the books. [Read more…]
